Week 3 and 4 (Term 2)

We agreed as a group to spent most of these weeks working on our dissertations. In week 3 I only managed to model a few small plants and an extra tree for the jungle, but thats about it. I think i' ll be able to stay on schedule with the modelling work since I accomplished alot in week 2. I asked Jono if i could model the snake character in the film and he said this was fine. So every now and then to stop myself from getting uninterested in writting my dissertation, im taking a break and concerntrating on modelling the snake. I'm enjoying it and very please with the way its looking so far.

Week 2 (term 2)

This week has been crazy! ive been modelling constantly. To begin with i found it so hard to make organic things like foilage, but then gradually as ive got into it, its become easier and easier. im starting to really enjoy it. I was dreading the fact that id been asked to make the thick jungle, but now im glad i took it on as its started to look really good. i never thought i could do it. So thank you Jono for giving me the challenge. Also thanks Rob for showing me a quick and easy way of making vines using a curve. At the beginning of the week a couldnt get my head around exactly how to structure the leaves and trees of a jungle, going by just my concept work. So Jono gave me an animation to watch for reference called "Surfs up". Parts of this film are set in the deep thick jungle and it really helped me. It gave me a better view of how the foliage looks and also where plants should be positioned. I cant even think at the moment of how many things ive modelled so far for the jungle, but everytime i add a plant or tree it looks thicker and better. Obviously im not modelling every single plant completelty different to the others because some things can be duplicated as the view wont notice. Heres some of my work so far for the first shot of te jungle. Next week i will hopefully get started on modelling the second shot of the jungle where our character is running and jumps over a fallen log.

Week 1 (Term 2)

During the Christmas break and in week one i started to model the interior of the house. Just the lounge and Hallway. I modelled this area in the style we finalised on as a group. When i returned back to college i showed the group the assets i had made so far and they were pleased with the work. i tried to make sure that the assets were of a good quality and low in the number of poly's. We have started to make a blockout of the environment so we can get a better idea of how the film with look, the camera shots, where objects are positions etc. I am moving on now to start modeling the jungle foliage which has proved to be a bit of a task. As soon as i started modelling some jungle leaves, I knew that creating a thick jungle would be very high poly, that is if i am to modelled absolutely every vine and leaf. So at the moment, my time is being spent testing out different ways of making the foliage which is not only good quality (smooth and realistic) but low poly. I suggested painting parts of the foliage, attaching this to alpha channels and then modeling other parts such as trees trunks. This is something i will discuss further with the group. I thought it would be a good idea to ask another student how they made there jungle for a previous project. Also we now have a schedule that tell each member of the group exactly what they have been assigned to till the submission day in June.
